You know what? I am sick of sports entertainment. I am sick of our Chairman. Most of all, I am sick of you fans who actually buy into that crap, this sports entertainment circus!
Who dropped this little pipe bomb? If you guessed CM Punk, you guessed wrong.
Six years ago, Joey Styles set the wrestling world ablaze with his comments against WWE on Monday Night Raw. His nearly four-minute promo cut to the very heart of the company, and his disgust with its presentation of professional wrestling as sports entertainment.
For longtime fans, we knew right away that this was not a true shoot in the sense of the word. Any talent who suddenly decided to go off on his own without Vince McMahons knowledge, would likely find himself holding a dead mic as the program goes to commercial.
And he may very well be looking for work the next day.
But this did not happen to Styles, of course. The basics of the promo were worked out ahead of time and then he elaborated, verbally ripping WWE apart.
A very cool moment.
Why? Again, we understood it was a work. And we also know that 90 percent of the time everything we see is simply just a part of the program.
If anything we should been offended by this spot, frustrated that WWE would very openly patronize us, in a public admission that they understood what our complaints were, yet had no intention of changing their MO
Yet, we loved it. We ate it up. Much in the same way we latched onto CM Punks promo on Raw five years later, we could not get enough of the concept that one lone voice can cause a real stir and make a difference.
To be honest, its a very American proposition, that one man can stand up and fight injustice. One man can speak against the abusive authority that seeks to silence him, and simply just tell the truth. Theres no wonder why it works in pro wrestling. Fans dont want to be worked. They want the truth.
And a good many of them just want some dirt.
As romantic as the lone revolutionary idea is, lets be honest about it. Getting to peek behind the curtain at the inner workings of WWE, or for that matter TNA, is something that is just too good to pass up.
Wrestling fans view themselves as not merely spectators, but participators. Everyone wants to know everything. Everyone wants to feel as if they are truly connected to the product.
Perhaps this is why shoot interviews are as popular as they are. They have become a very big deal, especially online, where fans can watch some of their old favorites shoot about their days in the industry. They talk about their matches, the men they worked for, and most importantly, other workers.
How many of us watched the Ultimate Warrior completely tear down the image of Hulk Hogan on YouTube? We knew about some of Hogans past history, but Warrior gave fans a side of Hulk that many of us have never known.
Is he telling the truth? His videos were from his standpoint, after all. They were not in debate form where Hogan could quickly provide a rebuttal.
But the fact is, that didnt matter. Love him or hate him, Warrior created real controversy by divulging inside information, stories that the general public had never been made aware of.
And yes, fans could not stop talking about it.
Its human nature to be curious. And its only natural that fans want to get as much real content from an industry predicated on fiction that they can possibly have.
We just love the dirt.
That is why the worked shoots always get over with the crowd. Because despite the fact that we know it is being done in a controlled environment, we often find ourselves agreeing with everything being said.
We sit, we listen, hoping that at least a portion of the promo is real, words that perhaps Vince did not know were going to be said.
How over is the concept?
John Cenas feud with The Rock became must-see TV, due in large part to the jabs that were thrown on the part of both men. Cenas very public criticism of Rockys non involvement in WWE over the years hit home for many fans, who had been of the same opinion.
Rockys assertion that John was a phony, a guy whose career was based on running the same tired routine for years, echoed the sentiments of Cena critics everywhere. For them, it seemed as if Cena was finally being put in his place.
Had WWE played this rivalry as a straight up feud, centered around manufactured pro-wrestling heat, it may not have done the huge business that it eventually did. The WrestleMania payoff was immense, heavily fueled by the apparent real animosity that existed between both men.
The aforementioned CM Punks entire current run was built upon that promo from last year. WWE creative knew that it would spark the fire that would cause Punk to get red hot, allowing them to build on it, and here we are, over 300 days into his WWE Title reign.
Reality, or even just the slightest glimpse of it, is such an attractive notion for fans, that when it happens, it gets over. It always does.
That is the power of the promo. That is the power of the shoot angle. It has always worked, and it always will.
And thats not a work.

Los Angeles Clippers at the Portland Trail Blazers, 7:30 pm TNT
Portland looks to bounce back from a 114-91 loss at Dallas on Monday. … The Blazers will look to right their offense. After shooting 50.6 percent from the field in a season-opening win over the Lakers, they have shot 35.9, 41 and 38.7 percent from the field during their three-game road trip in which they went 1-2. . … JJ Hickson had a huge game in his only matchup against the Clippers last season, getting 29 points and 13 rebounds and shooting 13 for 19 from the field. Going into Wednesdays games, Hickson ranked No. 6 in the NBA in rebounds per game. … Damian Lillard leads all rookies in scoring, 3.0 points ahead of second-place Dion Waiters of Cleveland, and is also No. 1 in assists and minutes (36.9).
The Clippers shook off a two-game losing streak with a dominant 106-84 home win over previously unbeaten San Antonio on Wednesday. … Blake Griffin has been playing with a burst bursa sac in his right elbow and was also complaining of an aching back, which might explain the early dip from his averages of 20.6 points and 10.8 rebounds last season. However, Griffin broke loose with 22 points and 10 rebounds against the Spurs. … Jamal Crawford, who played for the Blazers last season, leads the Clippers in scoring at 21.2 points. Indianapolis Colts at the Jacksonville Jaguars, 5:20 pm NFL Network
Andrew Luck looks to lead the visiting Colts to a fourth consecutive victory Thursday night when they try to avenge an earlier loss to the Jaguars, who hope to avoid a franchise-record fifth straight home defeat.
Few knew what to expect with top overall pick Luck guiding Indianapolis (5-3) this season, but since dropping to 1-2 with a 22-17 loss to Jacksonville on Sept. 23, the Colts have surged into the thick of the playoff race.
Indianapolis last won four in a row when it closed the 2010 regular season with four victories.
Despite a 79.0 passer rating, his 2,404 yards passing match the 2012 total of predecessor Peyton Manning. Sundays game was Lucks fourth with at least 300 passing yards, tying Mannings rookie record.
Hes also thrown one pick over the last three games after being intercepted seven times in the first five.
The Colts rank fourth in the league with 390.9 yards per game, a huge improvement from last season when they were 30th at 286.8.
The season has since gone downhill for the Jaguars (1-7), who will be without Maurice Jones-Drew for a third straight game because of a foot injury. Jacksonville has not lost six in a row since a slide of that length spanning the 2002 and 03 seasons.
The Jaguars managed 279 yards and didnt score until the fourth quarter of a 31-14 home loss to Detroit on Sunday. They have been outscored 126-34 in going 0-4 in Jacksonville. The Jaguars are last in the NFL in total offense (254.4) and scoring (14.6)
Blaine Gabbert has a 78.4 passer rating in 2012, but hes 3-0 against the Colts despite completing 57.4 percent of his passes for an average of 121.7 yards. He threw a TD in each of those contests while being intercepted once overall.
Florida State Seminoles at the Virginia Tech Hokies, 4:30 pm ESPN
Florida State is looking to continue its march toward the ACC championship game. Virginia Techs goals are more modest: trying to salvage a winning season and earning a bowl bid.
Florida State (8-1, 5-1) is atop the conferences Atlantic Division and controls its own destiny after a 48-7 win over Duke in its last game Oct. 27. North Carolina State holds a tiebreaker by virtue of beating the Seminoles on Oct. 6, but the Wolfpack have dropped their last two games to all but fall out of the division race.
The Seminoles are the only team ranked in the top 10 in total offense (seventh at 524.6 yards per game) and defense (first at 227.1). Since falling to North Carolina State, theyve won three straight by an average score of 44.0-11.3.
Senior EJ Manuel has a pass efficiency rating of 174.0 thats second in the country, and hes among the front-runners to be named ACC player of the year. Manuel has been particularly good during the winning streak, completing 69.1 percent of his passes for 950 yards and six touchdowns.
Virginia Tech (4-5, 2-3) must win two of its final three games to extend its string of 19 consecutive seasons with a bowl berth, the third-longest active streak in the country. That could prove to be a tall order as the Hokies have lost four of five and have their worst mark after nine games since 1992 – the last time they missed a bowl, when they finished 2-8-1.
Logan Thomas has been one of Beamers few reliable playmakers, averaging 281.2 yards of offense to rank third in the ACC behind Manuel and Clemsons Tahj Boyd. Thomas, though, leads an offense thats scoring touchdowns on 53.6 percent of its red-zone possessions.
amp;lt;a href=http://polldaddy.com/poll/6675598/amp;gt;What will you be watching tonight?amp;lt;/aamp;gt;
A return to Lane Stadium could help cure the Hokies woes. Virginia Tech is 4-1 at home compared to 0-4 on the road.
Florida State has won 13 of the last 15 matchups but Virginia Tech has taken two of the past three, including the 2010 ACC championship game.
New York Red Bulls at DC United, 4:30 pm NBCSN
Red Bull Arena was originally scheduled to host the opening game of this set Saturday, but the first leg was shifted to the nations capital because of power outages and flooding caused by Hurricane Sandy.
A snowstorm swept through the New York area Wednesday, pushing the decisive finale back about 24 hours.
Rafael Marquezs status was uncertain for this leg, but he was listed in the starting lineup Wednesday and 24 more hours to recover should only help.
United standout Andy Najar would only be able to return for the East finals, if DC can advance. The 2010 MLS rookie of the year was given a red card for throwing the ball at the referee in the first leg, a wild draw that featured own goals from both clubs.
The New York Red Bulls are trying to eliminate DC United for the first time in four all-time playoff matchups. United advanced from series in 1996, 2004 and 2006.
The Red Bulls seem likely to use leading goal scorer Kenny Cooper, who was in the starting lineup Wednesday. Head coach Hans Backe decided to go with Sebastien Le Toux at forward alongside Thierry Henry for Saturdays game to try to stretch DCs defense, but Le Toux recorded only one shot and Cooper replaced him in the 80th minute.
New York hasnt reached the conference finals since its run to the MLS Cup in 2008. DC, which snapped a four-year playoff drought this season, last made it that far in 2006.
Houston Dynamo, which upset the top-seeded Sporting Kansas City, awaits the winner.

16 years ago this past summer was the year when professional wrestling was revolutionized and forever changed the game. 16 years ago, a small idea was conceived which quickly sprouted into something monumental. 16 years ago, history was made which may arguably be one of the most influential and dominating occurrences that successfully crossed over from sports entertainment to pop culture all together. 16years ago was 1996, the year of the birth of the nWo (New World Order).
This week, the WWE released the lasted (and quite possibly the final) DVD release chronicling the timeline and the history of the New World Order. There have been two other DVD releases that have been released to chronicle the history. The first one was nWo 4 Life released on VHS in 1999 via World Championship Wrestling (it was all Kayfabe). The 2nd was New World Order-Back In Black released in 2002 via World Wrestling Entertainment. The new released nWo Revolution is finally the beginning to end complete story of the most notorious stable in the history of wrestling.
This blue ray/DVD release, in typical WWE fashion was very well done. If you were a wrestling fan during this golden era of pro wrestling, this video did much more than just keep you glued to the 63 min story, but it literally brought you back to that euphoric feel of being enthralled and invested into the unpredictability of this force. The documentary had interviews with various past members of the group (some video was taken from the previous releases), in addition interviews with former WCW superstars as well. A benefit of the documentary was the archived footage that was virtually as rare as some pieces of footage that have only been seen once. You may think that you have seen it all, but in reality, it was only the tip of the iceberg.
The story of the New World Order is a classic example of situation where youre skyrocketed to the top and there is nowhere to go except down (especially when you are under poor management). The commentary and the interviews with the past members were as honest as it comes. As an adult watching this, you now have a much more broader perspective to be able to decipher what exactly went wrong with the faction and how it may have played a role in the demise of World Championship Wrestling. As a young wrestling fan, you sort of go with the flow and enjoy the ride as it happens, but the way this story was told really does bring clarity to the entire picture.
The nWo was the single faction that forever changed professional wrestling. Every week you would tune into WCW Monday Night Nitro to see what would happen next with the nWos antics. Whether it would be an attack on a wrestler, the take over of the broadcast booth or even better, who would be next to join the group. Even though Monday Night Raw was on every week with some good wrestling, the nWo created a hostage like environment and as a viewer you just never knew when they would pull the trigger, so you couldnt help but keep your eyes on the television.
As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end, and to an end the nWo did and does face. But one thing is for certain, I challenge any wrestling fan who was a fan back then, 16 years later to hear the nWo entrance music and not have the hairs on their back of their neck raise at attention. Not out of nerves, but out of respect.
4 Life.

BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) – A space for the Buffalo Bills, conventions and even retail could be built in downtown Buffalo. If it actually happens, many jobs would be created to spur the western New York economy.
Open land along Buffalos outer harbor would be developed into a multi-use stadium, if the Greater Buffalo Sports and Entertainment Complex group has its way.
WUFO Sports Director Pat Freeman calls it a “game changing opportunity for western New York.” Freeman, who is working with the group, says the underlying idea is to bring the Bills to Buffalo.
Freeman said, “Ralph Wilson Stadium is only used seven to nine years per year. It’s in a location that doesnt attract year round avenues of conventions and everything else.”
Freeman and the team from the Sports and Entertainment ComPlex commissioned a design from Dallas-based architecture firm HKS Sports Entertainment. The preliminary design was released to the media on Tuesday morning. HKS has designed stadiums including Cowboys Stadium, Lucas Oil Stadium and Dodgers Stadium.
The price of the stadium proposal is $1.4 billion. The downtown stadium proposal has the opportunity to bring a lot of money back to Buffalo, which is why some city councilmen have already thrown their support behind the plan.
Councilman Demone Smith expects this project to get the green light. Smith said, “You wouldnt have to do much remediation. Its land thats available thats not being used.”
The NFTA owns the outer harbor land, which could be a potential snag. However, Smith says “if there’s a will, there’s a way.” The outer harbor would have to be transferred to the citys ownership before any work begins.
“Its a great thing for western New York and a great thing to show all of western New York how a group of people with a similar interest are working together for the greater good.”
The idea of a stadium and entertainment complex in downtown Buffalo has been a hot topic among WNY sports fans for years . Some fans think its a great idea but others have concerns about the practicality of a downtown location.
WNY resident Rick Conklin told News 4 in April that he supported the idea of a downtown stadium. Yeah, the taxpayers [would pay for it], but at least the stadium would be in the city where it can be more easily accessed as well as it will be for more than football. Summer concerts, high school sports, the possibilities are almost endless, he said.
Phyllis Blazer disagreed with the idea saying in April, Another horrible decision. Where will the fans park? It should have been a domed stadium in the city in the beginning.
There is a two to three year timeline, according to Freeman. Building the complex alone would take about two years. The proposal is being presented to the city council’s community development committee at 1 pm

Impact Wrestling Comes to Windsor
by Jerzy Cootauco Saturday, November 10th, 2012 at 12:40 pm Posted in Eventsgt;Featuregt;Localgt;Must Readsgt;Uncategorizedgt;Youth
Impact Wrestling Brings Its Brand of Sports Entertainment to the WFCU Centre
The WFCU Centre hosted yet another evening of world-class entertainment last night as Impact Wrestling, formerly known as TNA, shook the rafters of the Spitfires headquarters. The Spike TV sports entertainment outfit performed a non-televised rendition of its show before an involved Windsor audience.
Marketed for the 18-49 year olds of male and female viewers, the crowd appeared to be an accurate demographic of the companys aim. Of course, the audience also contained the occasional group of pre-PG-13 boys who were antsy to get their un-parental-filtered taste of some of the after-hours stuff. The show did not fail to disappoint.
Toronto-native Gail Kim took the time prior to her bout with Miss Tessmacher to announce that emigrating from Canada was the single greatest decision she had ever made. The Windsor audience was dismayed. How dare this asian lady given a good opportunity in our country smite us? Kim got her come-upins from Tessmacher, who smothered Kims face between her bottom and the turnbuckle back-and-forth and up-and-down.

Greg Lucas had the first play-by-play call on Home Sports Entertainment, and he will have the last word on Fox Sports Houston.
Todays Astros-Cubs game is the final game broadcast for the Astros on FS Houston as the team moves with the Rockets from its longtime home on HSE/Prime/Fox Sports to Comcast SportsNet Houston. Lucas called the inaugural Jan. 4, 1983, Celtics-Rockets game on HSE and will work the final Astros pre- and postgame shows today.
Im proud to have been there for the first and last events, Lucas said. I hope my career isnt ending, but the part of it involved with this same company in Houston is coming to an end.
Lucas holds a unique place in Texas sports broadcasting with major roles in San Antonio, where he called Spurs games in the early 1980s; Dallas-Fort Worth, where he did Rangers games on HSE in 1989-94; and in Houston, which has been home for almost 30 years.
His role has been as trivial as designing the first HSE mike flag and as consequential as working two perfect games – Kenny Rogers 1994 gem with the Rangers and Matt Cains game this year against the Astros – and the Astros six-pitcher no-hitter in 2003.
Friday is the final day of employment for FS Houston employees. The channel will be reabsorbed into Irving-based Fox Sports Southwest, which will have limited Houston-based programming, including two weekly Texans shows, and a full slate of Rangers games airing in Houston next season.
It will be business as usual for us, other than the fact we dont have the Astros and Rockets, said FS Southwest general manager Jon Heidtke. We will have our Big 12, Conference USA and UIL content, and we will continue to highlight Houston in our high school initiatives.
FS Southwest will remain at its current locations on satellite and telco systems and will assume the channel 37 and 637 slots on Comcast cable.
Longtime Fox employee Patti Smith is expected to remain with Fox to host the Texans programs, and Kevin Eschenfelder already has joined the new channel. Bart Enis has not disclosed his plans.
CSN Houston officials have not commented on Astros plans for 2013, but game analyst Jim Deshaies is expected to return, and studio analyst Steve Sparks could join the network. Play-by-play voice Bill Brown said he is uncertain of his plans for 2013.
Nielsen ratings have declined sharply for Rockets and Astros games as the teams have struggled and Fox has focused on Dallas-Fort Worth teams. Two years ago, after the Rockets and Astros said they were leaving Fox for Comcast/NBC, Fox paid for several billboards in Houston, including one a few blocks from Minute Maid Park, congratulating the Rangers on reaching the World Series.
Lucas said he will recall HSE pioneering executives Dick Barron and Jack Stanfield and other longtime colleagues as he prepares for the final FS Houston broadcast.
Ill talk about how its been essentially the same company since 1983, but those days are coming to an end, he said. Good things are in store (with CSN Houston), and we hope to see you in a few months.

WWEs Money in the Bank briefcase(s) is arguably the most prestigious championship in sports entertainment. No Money in the Bank winner has ever lost a championship match, and only one has ever failed to capture a world championship upon winning the briefcase.
Those who win the Money in the Bank match may as well be crowned interim world champion as it is usually only a matter of time before their inevitable coronations.
Dolph Ziggler has held the World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank briefcase since he won an eight-man ladder match at Junes Money in the Bank pay-per-view. Zigglers lengthy stint hasnt been a slow burn so much as it has been an afterthought in recent weeks.
Sure, every now and then Ziggler will make some bold proclamation of cashing in his championship opportunity only for nothing to happen as the show goes on, with said proclamation largely dismissed in the storylines.
Recently, the WWE has teased an obsession Dolph Ziggler has with John Cena as the potential future world heavyweight champion inexplicably vies for the WWE Championship.
Further contributing to Zigglers scatter shot booking, Ziggler will now act as a replacement for CM Punk as Team Ziggler takes on Team Foley in a loaded 10-man tag team match that once again figures to bury the significance of the Money in the Bank briefcase.
The allure of Money in the Bank stems from the fact that it can be cashed in at a moments notice, with many of prior cash-in attempts coming as exhilarating surprises.
However, the longer the WWE goes without properly reminding fans of the importance of the Money in the Bank briefcase and the fact that Dolph Ziggler is its owner, the less fans will care when he eventually does cash in. Surprise or not.
As was brought up by Justin LaBar in a recent debate with yours truly, it could even behoove the WWE to make a storyline out of Zigglers continued inactivity with the briefcase, one that would suggest that he may have become frozen by the potential of the big moment.
Such a simple caveat to Zigglers run as Money in the Bank Champion would be an effective way to remind fans of Zigglers important distinction, while enhancing the ultimate payoff.
Time is running out on Dolph Zigglers Money in the Bank relevance. The continued carelessness towards the Money in the Bank briefcase could figure to doom Zigglers eventual world title reign before it even starts.

As senior editor of SB Nation DC, it gives me great pleasure to officially raise the curtain on our content partnership with Monumental Sports and Entertainment. You can read the whole press release here, if you are so inclined.
How does this effect you, the reader? It will enhance the work done by Bullets Forever and Japers Rink, as well as by SB Nation DCs Wizards and Capitals editors by providing even more pregame and postgame coverage and content. Well have the ability to cross-promote videos, blog posts, articles and do other things that we either couldnt have done before or could only have done with much difficulty.
To that end, well be rolling out two new features this month:
The first is called Press Box, a bi-weekly roundtable show that will featuring reporters, broadcasters, and bloggers. To tell you what kind of talent is on offer, the first show features Wizards radio voices Dave Johnson and Glenn Consor, Wizards digital correspondent Casey Phillips, and Bullets Forever blogrunner Mike Prada and SB Nation DC Wizards editor Thomas Pruitt.
The second feature, called On The Road, will involve previews and insight of select Wizards road games with members of SB Nations robust NBA community. The first of these is scheduled for Nov. 30, when the Wizards travel to the Big Apple to play the New York Knicks.
And theres more great stuff where that came from. Were very excited, and you should be, too.
