CLARKSVILLE, TENN. — The patter of little feet will be heard once again during the Rivers Spires Festival Childrens Parade that takes place Saturday, April 21.
For the big event, children 12 and younger, along with their accompanying adults, will join in for the theme Its Your Birthday! The lineup is at noon at the festivals Kidz Zone, in front of First Baptist Church at 435 Madison St. The parade begins at 1 pm Children may dress in costume and walk. Alternately, they may ride on small floats. Participants must register by April 13 through the website at riversandspires.com/events/childrens-parade.
Organizer Shirley Taylor said she always tries to come up with a theme that will interest children. This year, she thought that since this was the 10th year for the festival itself, it was time to celebrate that.
In honor of the festivals 10th birthday, well just celebrate everybodys birthday, Taylor said. We knew birthdays were something children enjoyed.
Taylor came up with the parade idea eight years ago after seeing a childrens parade elsewhere.
I was thinking that not every child is on a ball team or in a Scout club, and this is something that any child can join in, and it doesnt cost them anything, she said. They dont have to be selling anything or doing a fundraiser they can just participate in it and be their wonderful selves.
More fun for the young ones will be found in the Kidz Zone. There children will find an array of free entertainment, such as an inflatable jungle, walls for climbing and painting activities geared toward kids ages 2 to 12. The Kidz Zone will be open 5 to 9 pm, Friday, April 20, and 10 am-9 pm, Saturday, April 21.
The female clown Lovey will put on a show for children at the Kidz Zone at 6 and 7 pm, Friday, April 20, and at 11:30 am, 2:15 pm and 4:30 pm, Saturday, April 21.
